Construction of the key Čevo – Nikšić highway begins: 22 km in three years

Cevo – Niksic

The project to build a new section of the highway from Čevo to Nikšić has received the green light. The Montenegrin authorities have confirmed that no environmental impact assessment is required for the implementation, paving the way for the work to begin soon.

The length of the route will be 22 kilometers - from Cevo through Javorov Dol and Paprati to the junction with the Danilovgrad - Niksic road. The new route will become an important connecting axis between the center and the north of the country. The work is planned to be completed in three years in several stages, as funding becomes available.

The Čevo – Nikšić section is valued at 80 million euros

This section is a continuation of the already built Cetinje-Čevo road, 23 km long, which opened in the summer of 2024. The entire project of connecting Cetinje and Nikšić estimated 80 million euros and is considered a priority to reduce traffic in Podgorica and on the coast.

The route does not involve protected natural areas, but some deforestation and possible loss of individual natural environments are anticipated. Due to the low population density, the negative impact on people will be minimal.

In the future, the new road will become part of transport axis Niksic – Cevo – Cetinje – Njegusi – Kotor, which will significantly improve the connectivity between the south and north of Montenegro.
