Montenegro sees record number of foreign companies: over 31 firms earned nearly €200 million

In Montenegro today there is a 31,814 companies, owned by foreign citizens, and their combined revenue in 2024 amounted to almost 199 million euros, the Tax Authority reported. According to economic analyst Vasilije Kostić, the growth in the number of such companies is a natural consequence of the increasing number of foreigners residing in Montenegro, a trend he estimates as positive for the national economy.

"These citizens are likely employed by their own companies, thus preventing pressure on Montenegro's overall macroeconomic indicators and budget expenditures. In any case, when the number of enterprises grows, the gross domestic product potentially grows as well. Furthermore, regions that become centers of business activity become even more attractive to investors. The macroeconomic impact of such processes is quite significant. Naturally, it is assumed that business is conducted legally" Kostić said in an interview with RTV Podgorica.

Expert stressedthat the state should use incentive or restrictive measures to direct the development of foreign businesses into those sectors that are most important for the long-term growth of the Montenegrin economy.

"In any case, from both a cultural and social perspective, it's crucial that our environment be enriched by the presence of foreigners. From a business perspective, each new group of people arriving from other countries brings new cultural, sociological, and entrepreneurial habits, which also benefit the local population," Kostic noted.
