It is worth noting that in 2018 Montenegro ranked 58th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index. As for the countries of the Balkan region, Slovenia is in eighth place, Croatia - 28, Serbia - 50 and Albania is in 51st place in the Global Peace Index. North Macedonia is ranked one position higher than Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina is 81 on the list, and Kosovo is 86.

Since 2008, Iceland has been the most peaceful country in the world, and Afghanistan is the least peaceful state in 2019, last year it was Syria. Studies have also shown that the Middle East and North Africa remain the least peaceful regions in the world, while Europe is the most peaceful region on Earth.
