Montenegro plans to introduce a ban on plastic bags

The government of Montenegro is preparing a bill that provides for a complete ban on plastic bags. The law is expected to be passed by the end of the year. Also, the ban will affect plastic cutlery, plates, straws, etc.

The adoption of the new law was initiated by a group of citizens #CleanME, which opposes the use of plastic bags.

The group filed a petition and collected about 5300 signatures. The petition was presented to the Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro.

Every year, every citizen of the country uses about 730 disposable plastic bags. For comparison, Austrian citizens spend only 48 packages a year.
