The public organization biciklo.me says that the improvement of conditions for the use of bicycles must be accompanied by the development of public transport, which is now in a deplorable state in Podgorica.
However, the good news is that the draft budget for 2021 proposes an increase in subsidies for public transport, as well as the allocation of 5 million euros for the purchase of new buses in order to improve the quality of public transport services. This confirms that the Podgorica Administration is working on solving the problems of public transport. It also means that modernizing public transport will improve cycling and walking.
“The bicycle is considered to be the most economical means of transport within the city within 5 km. Most of the distances covered by the residents of Podgorica are shorter. As you know, bicycles do not pollute the air, do not make noise, have a positive effect on the flow of people and reduce parking problems, ”said representatives of the NGO.
In addition, a bicycle is a relatively cheap means of transportation, which means that it is widely available to all social groups because the ride is free.
Recall that at the beginning of the year, Podgorica adopted its first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan - a strategic document that creates the preconditions for sustainable planning of mobility and overcoming transport problems in the city through a balanced approach to all types of transport.
The plan aims to improve the quality of life for all citizens by increasing mobility, increasing road safety, reducing pollution and improving human health. This will be achieved through investment in sustainable forms of mobility - walking, public transport and bicycle use.
