At a virtual meeting, the Chairman of the Parliament of Montenegro Aleksa Becic said that his country would no longer allow stagnation on the path of European integration. This was reported by the Vijesti news agency.
He added that faster adoption of European standards will lead to an early closure of all “heads of negotiations and Montenegro's membership in the European Union».
Becic noted that the parliamentary elections in Montenegro in 2020 became historic, and that both the ruling circles and the opposition deserved a change of power.
Revealing the priorities of the new convocation of parliament, Becic emphasized that one of the key goals is to give the parliament the status of the main subject of social and political life. He also thanked European officials for the financial assistance provided by the EU to Montenegro for overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
As a reminder, the EU strategy published in February 2018 noted that Montenegro, along with Serbia, are favorites that may be “potentially ready” to join the EU in 2025. This means that Montenegro is becoming an attractive country for obtaining economic citizenship.
