Montenegro calls for lower VAT rate

The political party Prava Crna Gora ("Real Montenegro") is initiating amendments to the law on value added tax (VAT) and will propose its reduction from 21 to 19 percent.

Party spokesman Ivica Vukcevic said the existing VAT law needs to be changed to help citizens and the economy get out of the crisis.

“The previous government imposed an excessive tax burden on the citizens of Montenegro. This is especially true for VAT, which is the biggest tax burden on citizens. The previous government doubled the general VAT rate over the past ten years, ”Vukcevic said in a statement.

He recalled that from July 1, 2013, the general VAT rate was increased from 17 percent to 19 percent, and from January 1, 2018 - from 19 percent to 21 percent.
