Excise taxes will not be increased from July 1 by the decision of the authorities of Montenegro

Excise taxes on cigarettes, sugar products, cocoa and ice cream, sodas, tobacco products, sodas with added sugar, beer and sour-milk sodas are unlikely to be increased.

According to the publication ThenThis is good news for companies involved in the production and sale of these products, but not for the Ministry of Finance, which planned to raise excise taxes by 16,8 million euros by the end of the year.

On May 14, the Ministry of Finance and Social Security (MFB), headed by Milojko Spaic, presented the proposed amendments to the law on excise dutiesbut this law was not considered.

After the presentation of the budget proposal in the Assembly, there was a lot of talk about excise taxes, and most of the deputies said that this was not a very good move and that it could easily happen that the receipts from excise taxes would fall after the increase. They noted that this was three years ago, when the excise tax on cigarettes was increased.

Consumers also complained about the planned increase in excise taxes, because it would lead to higher prices for cigarettes, carbonated drinks, ice cream.
