Economic Citizenship Program, which the government of Montenegro has been implementing since January 2019, will end December 31 2022 year.
This was also confirmed by the Prime Minister with a technical mandate, Dritan Abazovic, at a government meeting. He said that new applications could be received by the end of the year.
Abazovich appreciated that the program has brought numerous benefits to the state, thanks to it valuable investments and new jobs have been created.
Within the framework of the program, foreign investors who invested a certain amount in tourism projects received Montenegrin citizenship. Because of this practice, the program was criticized by the European Commission, which has repeatedly called on the Montenegrin authorities to abandon this practice.
447 investors received passports as part of the economic citizenship program
As previously reported, within the framework of the economic citizenship program, the budget of Montenegro was paid 29 million euros in the form of taxes, and so far 447 foreign investors have received passports. Among them are citizens of Russia - 1211 people, including families of investors, China - 257, Lebanon - 81, Ukraine - 54, USA - 151, South Africa - 114, Saudi Arabia - 57, India - 56, also citizens of Australia, UAE, Japan, Kazakhstan , Mexico, Philippines, Canada, Poland and Turkey.
