Montenegro sends financial aid to Ukraine and prepares to accept refugees

The Ministry of Finance and Social Protection of Montenegro approved the sending of financial assistance to Ukraine and invited the government to consider the issue of accepting and temporarily accommodating immigrants from Ukraine, сообщил Secretary of State Janko Odovic.

The document of the Ministry of Finance and Social Security states that Montenegro expresses its solidarity with the people of Ukraine and that, as a responsible member of the international community, in accordance with the Law on International Development Cooperation and International Humanitarian Assistance, offers 50 euros of humanitarian assistance.

“In addition to the above, the Ministry of Finance and Social Protection of the Population invites the government to consider the possibility of supporting Ukraine through the placement and temporary accommodation of displaced persons,” the document says.

Recall that due to the special military operation of Russia in Ukraine, Montenegro joined to all restrictive measures, including eight packages of individual and economic sanctions adopted by the European Union against Russia, the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry said.

EU financial sanctions target key state-owned companies, especially in the defense sector, as well as about 70% of the Russian banking market, in order to completely limit Russia's access to major capital markets and significantly limit the flow of financial resources from Russia to the EU. Energy sanctions include a ban on the sale, purchase, transfer or export to Russia of specific goods and technologies intended for oil refining (refining), as well as the provision of related services, which deprives Russia of the ability to upgrade its oil refineries to new standards, the report said.
